What is the difference between the kingdom of Israel and the kingdom of God?
The two are not the same, and confusing them is where the disciples went wrong. The kingdom of Israel is the literal, earthly kingdom promised in the Old Testament through the Davidic Covenant, an eternal throne, kingdom, and posterity, which the disciples expected Messiah to establish by overthrowing Rome. The kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom, one we enter the instant we place our faith in Jesus Christ, when to as many as receive Him He gives the right to become children of God. For forty days after the resurrection Jesus had been speaking not of the kingdom of Israel but of the kingdom of God, and it is this spiritual kingdom that is being established during the Church Age.
