What does the Bible teach about the Kingdom of Israel?

The Kingdom of Israel is a literal, earthly kingdom promised in the Old Testament through the Davidic Covenant. This kingdom was to have an eternal throne, kingdom, and posterity, with Messiah establishing it by overthrowing Rome. However, the establishment of this kingdom was postponed because Israel rejected her King, Jesus Christ. Instead of establishing the Kingdom of Israel, God initiated something unexpected - the Church Age, during which the Kingdom of God is being established. The disciples expected Messiah to establish the Kingdom of Israel immediately after His resurrection, but for forty days He had been speaking about the Kingdom of God, a spiritual kingdom that we enter by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. This spiritual kingdom has present results that continue forever, as seen in John 19:30 where Jesus says, “It is finished,” indicating completed action with ongoing results. The Bible teaches us to distinguish between the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of God, understanding that the earthly kingdom was set aside for a time while God established His spiritual kingdom during the Church Age.
