What does the Bible teach about the Kingdom of God?
The kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom that individuals enter the instant they place their faith in Jesus Christ. This concept was introduced by Jesus during the Upper Room Discourse, where He distinguished it from the literal, earthly kingdom promised to Israel through the Davidic Covenant. The disciples initially misunderstood this, expecting Jesus to establish the kingdom of Israel by overthrowing Rome. However, Jesus explained that God has set a period of time between the first and second coming of Messiah, known as the Church Age, during which the kingdom of God is being established. This spiritual kingdom is entered by faith, and those who receive Christ are given the right to become children of God. The establishment of the kingdom of Israel was postponed due to Israel's rejection of her King, but it will be fulfilled at Christ's second coming. Jesus emphasized that it is not for humans to know the times or epochs that the Father has fixed regarding this future event.
