What is the Upper Room Discourse?

The Upper Room Discourse is found in John 13–17. During this time on His last night with the apostles, Jesus prepared His disciples for what would happen after His death and resurrection.

In this discourse, Jesus shed light on the formation and function of the Church. He made it clear that the coming age of the Church would be unique because of the indwelling Spirit of God and the completed Word of God.

Jesus also began to introduce the kingdom of God during the Upper Room Discourse. This is a spiritual kingdom that individuals enter the instant they place their faith in Jesus Christ (John 1:12).
