What are the seven stages of faith described in Psalm 27?
In Psalm 27, David illustrates spiritual growth through seven stages of faith. Stage one is salvation, the foundation of all growth, where faith conquers fear. Stage two is study, diligently seeking the Lord through His Word and letting it become the priority of life. Stage three is faith-rest, resting in the secret place of fellowship where the Word surrounds us and gives us stability in the day of trouble. Stage four is spirituality, offering the sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving in the power of the Spirit. Stage five is suffering, the intensive pressure that wrenches a cry from the soul and, met with prayer, accelerates our growth. Stage six is occupation with Christ, persevering through suffering to seek from the page the Person of Jesus Christ—the stage most essential to maturity. Stage seven is waiting, the strongest Hebrew faith of all, in which we exchange our human strength for God's and finally find true courage.
