What does the Bible teach about suffering?

The Bible teaches that suffering is a natural part of following Christ and fulfilling His continuing cause. Satan, as the god of this world, will utilize every force at his command to stop believers from promoting Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:7-10). However, God allows suffering because it is the only way His glory will be seen through us (Romans 8:28). Suffering can take many forms, including personal satanic attack, and can be a catalyst for growth and maturity in our faith. As we advance in our spiritual lives, our suffering matures with us, and we become heroes of faith when we share Christ's sufferings (1 Peter 5:8-14). Ultimately, God is able to work all things together for good, even suffering, to bring glory to Himself and to refine His people.
