How can we know that the enemy operates according to a well-thought-out plan?
We know it because Scripture tells us plainly. Paul warns that we are not ignorant of Satan's schemes, using noema, a word for plots, plans, and stratagem, and again he speaks of the schemes of the devil, methodeia, meaning cunning arts, deceit, craft, and trickery. Our enemy is not only a master strategist but also a cheat and a liar, and his plans are personal; he had compiled a massive dossier on Job and found the file marked "Greatest Fear." Yet we hold to the principle of Job 1:12, that the enemy cannot touch us except when and where God permits.
