What is the purpose of redeeming time?
We are to redeem time for two reasons. First, because the days are evil: the prince of darkness controls this marketplace, and when we fail to purchase a portion of the day we let him win, but when we buy time God's way, living it in the filling of the Holy Spirit, we slow the advance of evil. Second, because the time is short and running out: each of us has only a certain number of days to live, exactly the number we need to fulfill God's plan and achieve spiritual greatness. When we redeem time, we are purchasing a portion of the day for God's use, slowing down the progress of evil in this world. This can be done by living a life surrendered to the Holy Spirit and using our gifts and talents to advance God's kingdom.
