What does the Bible teach about mercy?

This means that God's mercy is not just a feeling or an attitude but a powerful force that actively pursues and protects us. Jesus Christ demonstrates this mercy by seeking and saving the lost with passionate intensity (Luke 19:10). In contrast to the Pharisee who prayed to himself, the tax collector in Luke 18:11-13 exemplifies true humility and dependence on God's mercy, crying out, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' This prayer was answered because he recognized his need for mercy and acknowledged his sinfulness. As a result, he was justified before God (Luke 18:14). The Bible teaches that only those who realize their need for mercy can lay hold of God's grace.
