What is God’s purpose in allowing us to be tempted?
God's purpose in allowing us to be tempted is that the testing of our faith produces endurance and brings us to spiritual maturity (James 1:2-4). The temptation is to sin, but the test is to exercise faith; because it is the testing of our faith that produces endurance, hupomeno, the power to abide under and persevere, God permits us to be tempted. As Peter adds, God wants us to know how strong our faith is, and the proof of our faith, more precious than gold, will be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
