When the dispute arose between Hellenistic and Hebrew Christians in Acts 6, why did the apostles say it was not desirable for them to wait tables?
Not out of pride — they did not think serving tables was beneath them. They simply knew they had been commissioned and gifted to study and teach the Word, and to set that aside for waiting tables would abandon God’s plan for their lives. So they appointed deacons to serve, devoted themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word, and the Word of God kept right on spreading.
