What does the Bible teach about godliness?

Godliness is conformity to Jesus Christ, which means Christ living in and through us. It is the most awesome potential in the universe, but we can either be hungry for it or apathetic and indifferent to it. The filling of the Holy Spirit plus the continued perception of the Word of God sets up a system of inner authority in the soul, allowing us to control ourselves as servants of God. When we are filled by means of the Spirit, our sin nature is rendered inoperable, and we can run toward the goal of spiritual maturity. The evidence of the filling of the Spirit will be the fruit of the Spirit in the believer's life. According to 2 Peter 1:3-7, godliness is a function of spirituality that results from applying all diligence in our faith, supplying moral excellence (virtue), and then moving on to knowledge, self-control, perseverance, brotherly kindness, and finally love. Godliness is not just a moral virtue, but it is Christ living in and through us, making us partakers of the divine nature.
