What are the categories of rewards described in the Bible?
The Bible teaches that there are multiple categories of rewards for believers. Specifically, it describes five kinds of crowns: the crown of righteousness for faithfulness to the Lord (2 Timothy 4:7-8), the crown of joy for faithfulness in witnessing (Philippians 4:1), the crown of glory for faithfulness in ministry (1 Peter 5:1-4), the crown of life for faithfulness in testing (James 1:12), and the incorruptible crown for self-discipline in the spiritual life. These crowns are not just symbolic, but will be given to believers as rewards in eternity. In addition to crowns, there are other categories of rewards, including praise, rank and authority, and glory. The Bible teaches that these rewards are not based on human merit or achievement, but rather on faithfulness to God and His purposes. As the Apostle Paul writes, 'Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever' (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).
