Describe a “spiritual” person. How does one become spiritual?

A spiritual person is not one marked out by externals—by the pious way he dresses or talks or the places he will or will not go—nor merely one who seeks some higher power. According to the Bible, a person is spiritual when, and only when, he is filled by means of the Holy Spirit. This is an absolute: at any moment we are either one hundred percent filled by the Spirit and therefore spiritual, or not filled at all and therefore carnal. One becomes spiritual the same way everything else in the Christian life comes—by grace through faith: the filling is a gift we receive rather than earn, and when we grieve or quench the Spirit we regain it simply by confessing our sin, which cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
