What is the Christian way of life?
The Christian way of life is a one-word summary of faith, which is the only way to experience the abundant life Christ promised (John 10:10). This life is compared to a race where the goal is to be conformed to Jesus Christ. The normal Christian life is one of growth, moving from infancy to maturity (Rom. 1:17) and from helplessness to the point of saying, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13).
Every believer is given three assignments that define their purpose: priesthood in their relationship to God (1 Pet. 2:5–9), ambassadorship in their relationship to unbelievers (2 Cor. 5:17–20), and ministry in their relationship to other believers (1 Cor. 12:7, 11; Rom. 12:1–8). To function in these roles and endure the race, the Christian relies on the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, who is the only possible explanation for how any person is able to live the Christian way of life.
