What does the Bible teach about emotions and their role in living a life pleasing to God?

Emotions can be either a source of joy and fulfillment, or a tyrant that rules our lives. When under the control of God, emotion becomes the center of our capacity for enjoying physical and spiritual life. However, when not controlled by God, it leads to a 'rollercoaster of emotional revolt.' To move beyond subjective emotions and orient to God's reality, we must allow the Word of God to become practical and experiential in our lives through the love of the Holy Spirit.
