What does “sanctified” mean in Scripture?
“Sanctified” means “set apart” to God. Paul uses the perfect passive of hagiazo — past action with continuing results — and the passive voice shows we do not produce it. It means that at some point we were cleansed, with the result that we go on being cleansed, living daily in the light of the cross and in fellowship with the Lord, and so being set apart to Him.
