What is spiritual retreat/reversion?
Spiritual retreat, or reversion, is the act of reverting—turning back and returning to a former state or condition. The Christian life is a life of absolutes: at every moment we are either spiritual, controlled by the Spirit and running toward the goal, or carnal, controlled by the flesh and running away from it. When our carnality goes unchecked by confession, we drift farther and farther adrift into the more dangerous and destructive condition of spiritual retreat, like the Israelites who, after being delivered from Egypt, longed to turn back.
