What is the Bible's teaching on the sin of Adam and its effects on humanity?
The sin of Adam refers to the decision he made in Genesis 3, choosing Eve over God. This choice led to the Fall, which resulted in the possibility of perversion entering their minds. Adam and Eve responded by trying to make coverings for themselves, attempting to solve their problem themselves and hide their sinfulness from each other and God. The Lord God called for them, seeking a simple confession of their sin, which is always what He wants from us when we sin. This event had far-reaching consequences, as the sin of Adam was imputed to all humanity, making every member born spiritually dead and under condemnation (Romans 5:12; John 3:17). The Bible also distinguishes between inherent sin, the unique sin nature inherited from parents, and personal sin, which results from individual choices. Personal sins are categorized as mental, verbal, or overt actions. Sin is a terrible barrier between God and man, but Jesus Christ removed this barrier at the cross by becoming sin for all men (2 Corinthians 5:21).
