How do we get discernment?

We get discernment by feeding daily on the solid food of the Word and putting it to work, until our senses are trained through practice. Hebrews 5:13-14 shows that the mature have their senses trained to discern good and evil through practice, hexis, a habit that results from consistent, perpetual discipline, and through gumnazo, working out in the gym of the soul. As Philippians 1:9-11 shows, when our love abounds in real knowledge and all discernment, we grow able to make common-sense distinctions and then common-sense decisions, approving the things that are excellent by putting them to the test. Discernment is proof by testing, and it grows as we live our lives in the gym of the Word and the Spirit every day.
