Who was Job and when did he live? Describe what kind of man he was.

Job was an Arab prince living in the land of Uz near the time of Abraham, and his is the oldest book in the Bible. He was not a Jew, but he was a believer, and the greatest of all the men of the east, with seven sons, three daughters, and vast flocks and herds. Scripture calls him blameless (tam, meaning mature or complete, so he was a mature believer), upright (yashar, to walk straight, the man who walks straight ends up blessed), one who feared God (yare, reverence and honor for the Lord), and one who turned away from evil, which shows he knew consistent victory in his spiritual life. For a time this mature, God-fearing man became the target of Satan himself and the central figure in the spiritual war.
